Central Auto Repair and Machine Works, completed car
Description
Two men sit in a two-seat automobile while three others stand around it on a sidewalk in front of a brick building. The hood of the car is kept closed with a leather strap.
This photograph was probably taken for Elbert Hammett at his place of business. According to Polk's City Directory of Lincoln, 1914, Elbert A. Hammett and Vinton S. Howe owned Central Auto Repair and Machine Works located at 317 S 11th Street. According to his granddaughter, Hammett built this car and later invented other things, too. See also "Central Auto Repair and Machine Works, car chassis" for an image of the car without the hood, sides, etc.
