Object Description

Title	Atlas of Omaha, Nebraska, 1928
Description	Atlas of Omaha, Nebraska, 1928" consists of one large overview index map (73 x 46.5 cm.) entitled "Map of Omaha and Environs" mounted on a cloth backing, two Index to Additions pages, and 159 pages of maps (38 x 40.5 cm.). Under the title on the overview index map is a scale indicating approximately 1 mile per 2 1/4 inches. Under that written in pencil is "1928". At the bottom left is "Copyright 1914 by M. H. LaDouceur" at bottom center is the word "Index" and at the bottom right is "Compiled and drawn by M. H. LaDouceur, Designer, Engrosser, Draughtsman, City Nat. Bank Build., Omaha, Neb." The map is bounded on the north just beyond Sargent Street in the Florence area, on the east by the Missouri River, on the south by the Douglas / Sarpy County, Nebraska line (unlabeled), and on the west by 90th Street (labeled County Road). The map has large red numbers in each quarter section starting at the top of the map with number 1 and ending with number 156 at the bottom. The red numbers are a page index to the map pages which follow. The area covered by the map on page 1 falls north and outside of the boundaries shown on the "Map of Omaha and Environs" map. (The environs map was made in 1914 and the 1928 northern city limit extended north of Florence Heights Boulevard which is beyond the scope of the environs map.) Following the "Map of Omaha and Environs" index are two Index to Additions pages. These provide alphabetical listings of the additions and the corresponding page numbers. Each map covers a quarter of a section of land. The legal description of the quarter section is noted on the top right and lower left of each map page. The page number for the maps is in the top right corner. Numbers appearing at the center top, bottom, right and left edges of the map pages refer to page numbers for maps that adjoin that area. Map Page 156 is missing. All pages are fragile and crumbling and have old tape repairs. Pages where the top right corner and page number have crumbled away have the page number indicated nearby in pencil.
